From Award to Industry Benchmark: Pytes Energy Storage Empowers Austria's Mooshof Farm to Build an Energy-Independent Model

In November 2025, Austria's Mooshof Farm was honored with the prestigious Austrian Solar Prize, awarded by the European renewable energy authority EUROSOLAR, for its innovative and highly efficient energy self-sufficiency project.

Although the award was announced last year, the energy independence model achieved by the project, along with its ongoing economic benefits and industry-wide exemplary impact, continues to deepen and expand today.

Located in the Bregenzerwald region of Austria, Mooshof Farm is one of the area’s largest dairy enterprises, operating a complete industry chain that includes cattle breeding and milk processing. The farm faced multiple significant challenges in its energy transition:
• Unstable grid power in mountainous areas versus the need for 24/7 electricity supply for sensitive production equipment;
• Intermittent solar power generation versus the demand for day-night load balancing;
• Extreme reliability requirements for energy storage equipment in the harsh Alpine climate.

To address these challenges, Pytes delivered its core solution in spring 2025—the V5 Series energy storage system. The project integrated 96 Pytes V5 battery units, building a unified energy storage system with a total capacity of 500 kWh, which works in deep synergy with high-performance Victron inverters. The system’s outstanding performance is reflected in:

Robust Power Support: The system features high-rate charging and discharging capabilities, easily handling sudden power surges during automated equipment operation and ensuring continuous, stable production.

Superior Environmental Adaptability: With a wide operating temperature range and advanced low-temperature self-heating function, it guarantees safe, reliable, and efficient operation even in severe cold conditions.

Intelligent Energy Management: Through smart scheduling, the system increased the farm’s self-consumption rate of solar power to over 80%, significantly reducing reliance on the unstable external grid.

To date, this "solar + storage" system has enabled Mooshof Farm to achieve near-total energy self-sufficiency. The project is projected to save up to €50,000 in annual electricity costs, delivering a significant return on investment. Beyond the substantial economic benefits, its success proves the feasibility of achieving reliable energy autonomy via the "solar + storage" model in demanding, complex agricultural environments, establishing a replicable and scalable exemplary model.
